Matthew Paul Turner

Matthew Paul Turner is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller What Is God Like? as well as When God Made You and When I Pray for You. When the father of three isn’t writing books, he’s photographing interesting people and places, practicing wood carving, and watching his children play soccer.

When we spoke with Matthew about joining us, we asked what message he hopes will resonate most with our community. He shared:

“When I first started writing children’s books, I believed that the words I wrote were for my kids, that they’d be introduced to God’s story in a way that was very different from how I was introduced to God. And what I’ve learned in the years since I came out was that, yes, the words I wrote were very much for my own kids, but they were also words that I was writing to my inner child. Because sometimes taking care of myself in my current body means that I need to find ways to care for and love little Matthew. And redeeming my inner kid’s introduction to God has become a powerful thread in the story toward my own healing.”
